Commons Stack

Commons Stack is a library that collects blueprints for open-source components for governance, fundraising, capital allocation, and impact measurement. Our goal is to enable communities to share and manage common funds as a platform cooperative, allowing them to act as a commons. We come together as a community to provide the tools necessary for communities to stand up on their own to achieve their goals, even when donations, grants, and pro bono work are insufficient. By combining these components, we can build an intentional, circular, community-led, and renewable economy with continuous funding and transparent decision-making. These components are designed, simulated, and tested using token engineering tools and new best practices, and can be combined as needed to build an overall modeled and dynamically adaptive economy. Essentially, we bake strict and complex system designs into components that can be easily forked and customized to meet the needs of cryptographic projects and purpose-driven communities, and then test them. The purpose of Commons Stack is not to directly launch and manage a commons economy, but to build the tools and components necessary for communities to leverage the blockchain ecosystem and support the launch of a commons economy. Our goal is to build our own commons and expand its influence locally and globally. The purpose of Commons Stack is, above all, to build the basic infrastructure to launch commons that provide continuous funding, with a focus on open source commons. This may focus on research such as token engineering or infrastructure such as building ETH 2.0. An overview of our phased iteration strategy can be found here(http://commonsstack.org/#ids). The ultimate goal of Commons Stack is to provide digital infrastructure to manage shared resources around the world in a scalable way, prioritizing people and the planet to enable a renewable intentional ecosystem(https://medium.com/giveth/the-commons-stack-scaling-the-commons-to-re-prioritize-people-and-the-planet-fdc076aec4eb). Commons Stack does not directly solve these problems. What we are doing is expanding human cooperation towards shared goals and enabling communities (from local to global) to solve their own problems together. We are building the infrastructure for this. In the current state of blockchain technology, it will undoubtedly be adopted by the open source development community to promote digital public infrastructure (a public good provided to the world), but this is a very long-term story.
